The SAC is led by an international educator, Peter Krogh, two international businessmen, Guy Snowden and Peter Howell and Paula Wiggin, prize-winning angler.
The SAC was started eleven years ago. It is incorporated and has filed for 501(c)4 tax exempt status. It has established a fund within the Community Foundation for Nantucket entitled: "The Gray Seal Research Fund" which can receive tax deductible contributions. It has a core group of fifty founding members who represent multiple constituencies including recreational anglers, commercial fishermen, surfers, beach goers, and conservationists.
The SAC is headquartered on Nantucket Island and is endorsed by the 500 member Nantucket Anglers' Club. It has representatives on Martha's Vineyard and Cape Cod. Its research mission is endorsed by the Nantucket Chamber of Commerce, the Commissioners of the Nantucket Land Bank, the Nantucket Harbor and Shellfish Advisory Board and the Wauwinet Land Owners' Association.
